The Department of Dance announces a screening of the film “Nora, The Making of a Dance,” followed by a post screening talk by George A. Miller Visiting Artist Alla Kovgan and Nora Chiaumire. The film will begin at 6:00pm, in the Krannert Art Museum Auditorium, 500 East Peabody, Champaign.

This film is based on the true stories of dancer Nora Chiaumire, born in Zimbabwe in 1965, as she returns to the landscape of her childhood and takes a journey through vivid memories of her youth.

Director Alla Kovgan will discuss how she brought Nora’s history to life using performance and dance in a swiftly-moving poem of sound and images covering family dramas, difficult love affairs and militant politics.

Immediately following the talk Nora Chiaumire will give a performance in the Noel Gallery.
